Meniere's:
Have
you been diagnosed with Meniere's?
Meniere's
symptoms may include:
Attacks of vertigo (the room appears to spin) – the attacks last more
than 10 minutes and may last up to several hours
Nausea and vomiting usually accompany the vertigo attacks, especially in
the early stages of the disorder
A feeling of
fullness in the ear at the time of the
attack
Tinnitus (ringing in the ear) at the time of the attacks –
some degree of tinnitus may become permanent.
Hearing loss (and often distortion of sound) in the affected ear
at the time of the attack – some degree of hearing loss may become permanent if
Meniere's progresses to a later stage.
People
with Meniere's are encouraged to read as much as they can on this complex
disorder, as there are very many treatment methods (but no cure, as yet).
Become
better informed, so that you can you can enter into a useful discussion with
your family doctor, your ENT specialist, or your neurologist, on the best
management and treatment methods for your particular case.
There
is useful information on this website, but there is a lot more available, in
particular the authoritative printed brochures available from Meniere's
Australia – their contact details are on the contacts page of this website.
This
website:
This
website was formerly the website of the Meniere's Support Group of NSW Inc.
(MSGNSW). However, in mid-2009, the management committee of MSGNSW, with the
approval of members, arranged for our members to become members of the new
national organisation, Meniere's Australia Inc., and
applied to the NSW Office of Fair Trading for the voluntary cancellation of
MSGNSW as an incorporated association.
Present
members of MSGNSW will have already received information about this change.
Those
who are not yet members of a support group are invited to join Meniere's
Australia.
