The Ménière's Support Group of NSW is proud to present this set of informative brochures. The brochures will be useful to anyone (including sufferers, family & friends, and health professionals) needing to know more about Ménière's Disease. Each brochure has been written by an expert in the field. This video is excellent for raising awareness of the physical and psychological effects of Ménière's disease and is essential viewing for family and friends of people who have this condition. Our thanks go to the following people who featured in this video in order of appearance:

·         Mr. Hugh Mackenzie - a member of the Ménière's Support Group of NSW Inc., who was arrested on a train for being drunk while he was having an attack of Ménière's.

·         Professor W.P.R. Gibson AM FRACS FRCS - world expert on Ménière's disease.

·         Ms. Lynn Polson - Secretary, Ménière's Support Group of Victoria who talks about the effects it had on her two small children, her career and her marriage.

·         Mr. Malcolm Stewart – husband of Anne Stewart, past Secretary/Coordinator, Ménière's Support Group of NSW. He discusses the role of the carer.

ITEM 4 Audio Tape and Synopsis "Ménière's & Allergies".

This is the talk given by Dr. Wing at the Ménière's Support Group Annual General Meeting of 19/5/2001. Dr. Wing speaks on the allergic and environmental aspects of Ménière's disease. He explains his theory that Ménière's is part of a multi-system allergic disorder and gives a summary of his treatment methods.

ITEM 5 Book "Understanding Ménière's Disease"- edited by Ms Lynn Polson OAM

Price: $20

Lynn Polson is the Secretary of the Ménière's Support Group of Victoria and has an excellent understanding of the disorder. She has recently updated her book and added new chapters.

ITEMS 6 to 11 – Information Sheets - $2 each

ITEM 6    Serc (Betahistine). Serc is a medication, usually free of side effects, that is commonly prescribed for use on a daily basis for the alleviation of Ménière’s Disease. It is believed to increase the microcirculation of the inner ear.

ITEM 7    Stugeron (Cinnarizine) – This medication is not registered in Australia but is available through the Special Access Scheme. Stugeron is available freely in the UK as a motion sickness preventative. It is also used to reduce the vertigo associated with Ménière’s attacks. It has both an anti-histamine effect and a calcium channel blocker action.

ITEM 8    Urea – by Professor WPR Gibson AM MD FRACS FRCS. Urea can be used as a short-term diuretic to reduce the fluid build-up in the inner ear and provide a “safe period” of several hours when a vertigo attack will be unlikely to occur. ITEM 9    Endolymphatic Sac Removal – by Prof. WPR Gibson AM MD FRACS FRCS. This sheet describes the “drainage theory” of Ménière’s attacks and the operation to remove the Endolymphatic Sac. This operation can prevent or reduce the number of vertigo attacks for some years.

ITEM 10 – Gentamicin Treatment – by Robbie Yavor, Clinic Nurse Specialist, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. A discussion of intratympanic gentamycin treatment, including risks and benefits.

ITEM 11 – Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) By Dr Glen Croxson MB BS FRACS. BPPV is vertigo, dizziness or imbalance brought on by a position change of the head or body for example when rolling over in bed. ITEM 12 Audio Tape of the talks at the 2002 AGM

This tape includes a presentation by psychologist Maria Harasymczuk on Managing Anxiety and Depression with Ménière's Disease and a talk and discussion by Patron Dr. George C Wilson AM and pharmacist Mr. Isador Gadd on medications for Ménière's Disease

294 pages. Comprehensive guide to why (and how) we should reduce the amount of salt we consume. A low salt program is an important aid in managing Ménière’s Disease.
